As the field of esthetics continues to incorporate new technologies and services, the Oregon Health Licensing Agency (OHLA) and Board of Cosmetology are exploring how best to ensure public health and safety through creation of a new specialty certification in advanced esthetics.

Besides the public health and safety issues involved, OHLA and the board are addressing a wide range of related issues such as developing a new advanced curriculum and examination and determining qualification standards for the new certification.

Getting Licensed in Another State? ID Required
Spotlight
Oregon authorization holders applying for an affidavit of licensure to allow them to become licensed in another state through reciprocity must now provide two forms of agency approved identification, one of which must be photographic.

The Oregon Health Licensing Agency (OHLA) has adopted a temporary rule requiring identification in its continuing efforts to ensure the validity and security of the licensing process in Oregon and in collaboration with other state licensing agencies.

Out-of-State Applicants Must Pass Written Examination

The Board of Cosmetology voted at its May 10, 2010, meeting to require out-of-state applicants already authorized to practice in other states to pass both the Oregon Laws & Rules and field of practice examination(s) to qualify for certification in Oregon.

OHLA to Close on Scheduled Furlough Days
Veterans Building
Starting Friday, October 16, 2009, OHLA will be closed on 10 "furlough" days through May 2011 as part of state government efforts to reduce costs. State employees will take unpaid days off on these scheduled days. Please plan any business with OHLA accordingly. We apologize for any inconvenience.
Applying for Licensure? Know What ID Is Required
OHLA professions
OHLA has revised identification requirements in response to stakeholder feedback and upon further review by agency staff. Applicants for authorizations to practice should review the new requirements prior to applying for certification and sitting for an examination.
